Appearing on the first page of YouTube search results is just as important as appearing on the first page of Google results. YouTube first page statistics and click-through rates are hard to find, but Google first page statistics reveal the following:
- On the first page, the first five results account for 67.60% of all clicks and results from six to ten account for 3.73%.
- Page two and three get 5.59% of all clicks.
Although these statistics are dated, they highlight the importance of search placement. Also, organic search results are under attack and losing ground to paid ads, which intensifies the case to rank well.
Should you care about being on the first page of search results? It depends. If you post videos daily to build a loyal following, ranking on the first page may not be mission critical. Many YouTubers take that approach. I, however, am not a full-time YouTuber. I post videos infrequently and want my efforts to count. Therefore, ranking on page-one is vital, and I use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to support my activities. I focus on optimizing titles, descriptions, and tags. Also, I concentrate on thumbnail design to increase appeal and click-through rates.
