The email marketing software market is highly competitive. GetResponse is one such company in the field and claims to be “the world’s easiest all-in-one online marketing platform.” Its online marketing tools are available in 24 languages, which is unique. It has offices in Poland, the U.S., Canada, Malaysia, and Russia to support its 350,000+ customers.

Alongside email marketing services, GetResponse offers marketing automation, landing pages, opt-in forms, webinar, customer relationship management (CRM), and e-commerce functionality. GetResponse University has free courses on email marketing, list building, and CRM for small businesses. Separately, it offers digital marketing certificates in five marketing disciplines and charges $199 a course.

GetResponse Affiliate Program

GetResponse has two affiliate programs that anyone can join. Its self-hosted program uses proprietary affiliate tracking software while the other program is on the CJ Affiliate network. Let’s review the benefits, drawbacks, commission rate, cookie length, and details of the program.

Program Benefits

The signup process is uncomplicated and approval times on CJ Affiliate are usually quick. Most affiliate programs are open to anyone joining, but a small percentage only allow existing customers to participate, for example, ActiveCampaign. Affiliate marketing is a game of addition and inclusion, not subtraction and exclusion, which GetResponse understands.

Affiliates can earn excellent recurring and one-time commissions. The self-hosted program pays a 33 percent recurring commission. The recurring payout will last for as long as the customer continues to pay. If the customer upgrades to a higher-priced plan, your commission will increase. The CJ Affiliate program pays $135 for every sale.

Both programs have 120-day cookies. GetResponse provides an above-average conversion period compared to the 30 to 60-day referral periods that many other merchants offer. Its 30-day free trial helps to convert prospects into customers by giving them time to test the platform.

The payout threshold is low. As they state, “In order to qualify for the payout during the Commission Run (in between 15th and 20th), the balance in your account should exceed $50 on the last day of the preceding month. Also, if this is the first payout that you are receiving from us, we may keep it from one to up to three months due to additional anti-fraud checks.” There are different payment methods available depending on the region.

Deep linking is available for both programs. Deep linking is the practice by which an affiliate creates a link to a specific page on the merchant’s site. For example, instead of using a generic homepage affiliate link, I can link to an article that relates to my post. GetResponse gives you the ability to create links to any page on its website.

GetResponse has excellent marketing materials, which are available in multiple languages. GetResponse covers all the bases including:

  • Banners and text ads
  • Email message templates
  • Email signature text
  • Infographics
  • Videos
  • A company logo pack

There’s an affiliate marketing manager because “even experts sometimes need advice.” When a merchant has the staff to support publishers, it quickens processes and shows commitment. Additionally, GetResponse has an in-depth FAQs page.

The affiliate landing page is excellent. An affiliate landing page is supposed to be informative, and GetResponse hits the mark. There’s a brief FAQ section with more details about the program inside the affiliate portal.

Program Drawbacks

GetResponse is no longer an “it” platform. Its products and features are somewhat disorganized on its website, and I question how its webinar offering competes to Zoom. It also appears to be a step behind its competitors, such as MailerLite and Mailchimp, which offer similar features. Instead, GetResponse is sinking to the level of Campaigner, VerticalResponse, and StreamSend. Reviews for GetResponse are lukewarm and hover around four out of five stars, which suggests there is room for improvement.

An affiliate program is only as strong as the product or service behind it. Kudos to GetResponse for its robust affiliate program, but it should pay equal attention to its website design and branding. For example, its website is slow and web design practices are dated.

GetResponse doesn’t offer a free plan. Free plans are common and much better than free trials. Free accounts are useful to get customers “hooked” and to increase conversion rates to paid plans. MailerLite, Mailchimp, and many others offer free accounts.

Making Money

Can you make $1,000 a month as a GetResponse affiliate? It’s unlikely that you will make that amount or a significant income. GetResponse offers good affiliate programs, but its software is average. Unfortunately, mediocrity doesn’t lead to high conversion rates. Secondly, the email marketing landscape is crowded, which produces a lot of options for customers.

Where should GetResponse rank in your marketing activities? Unless you’re a customer and passionate about its services, it should be a low priority.
